Running for Social Good

How can we combine getting fit with doing good?

To find out we had a Google Hangout this morning with GoodGym - a not for profit set up in London in 2009.

GoodGym formed out of a frustration with normal gyms being a waste of energy and human potential. Realising that there are many neglected tasks and people in our communities that need energy , GoodGym attempted to to bring these things together.

It's simple - match people who like running to social good activities.

How does it work?

GoodGym do physical tasks that benefit the community and keep us fit.  People can run in a pack to work on a community project, do one off missions to help vulnerable people or commit to visit an isolated older person every week.

They get the help of a qualified trainer and support to achieve your goals.

What does the Lab think?

We love these kinds of concepts and would like to see it operate in Bromford communities. We'll be exploring this in a lot more detail as part of our Health and Community squads. It may be that it's something we can make happen,  or an idea for which we need a number of Midlands based Housing Associations to consider.
